Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide in the Manhattan jail he was being held, according to law enforcement officials.

Epstein is waiting trial for charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy. His charges could have been up to 45 years in prison.

In late July Epstein was found injured in his cell. There was speculation that he had tried to commit suicide, but investigators were unsure about what actually happened. NBC News reported that,

“Epstein was discovered semi-conscious, in a fetal position, with marks on his neck July 23, according to sources close to the investigation. He may have tried to hang himself, the sources said, but investigators had not ruled out the possibility that he was attacked by a fellow inmate or had staged the incident to get a transfer to a different facility.”

Jeffrey Epstein was connected with numerous high profile individuals including Bill Clinton and Donald Trump. Clinton was close with Epstein and took trips with him in 2002 and 2003. Trump claimed Epstein was a “terrific guy” in 2002 according to New York Magazine.

An Epstein accuser recently named many high profile people in her accusations. She said,

“Epstein and Maxwell trafficked her to powerful people for erotic massages and sex, claimed in depositions in 2016that Maxwell directed her to have sex with former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, Britain’s Prince Andrew (whom she has accused before), wealthy financier Glenn Dubin, former senator George Mitchell, now-deceased MIT scientist Marvin Minsky, and modeling agent Jean-Luc Brunel, as well as “another prince,” a “foreign president,” a well-known prime minsiter” and the owner of a “large hotel chain” in France.”

This story is still developing and will be updated when new details emerge.
