Former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford announced he will be running against Trump. He is the third republican to announce they are running against the President. Sanford thinks the Republican party has lost their way and that’s why he’s challenging Trump
Earlier this month Trump predicted that Sanford would try to run against him and called him “Mr Appalachian Trail. The President said on Twitter,
Can you believe it? I’m at 94% approval in the Republican Party, and have Three Stooges running against me. One is “Mr. Appalachian Trail” who was actually in Argentina for bad reasons…
Sanford was the one he said was in Argentina for some bad reasons.
He is referred to as “Mr. Appalachian Trail” because of a scandal when he was the governor of South Carolina in 2009. Sanford wasn’t heard from for about a week, so a spokesperson said he was hiking the Appalachian Trail. It turns out Sanford was in Argentina having an extramarital affair.
Sanford was defeated by a Pro-Trump challenger in the 2018 South Carolina primaries. He has been a harsh critic of the President and is unlikely to be much of a threat in 2020.
